Defining Your Goals: A Simple System That Actually Works
There's a Lot to Say About Goal Setting
I've chosen to keep this practical and specific. I'll use weight loss through keto and low-carb eating as the example, to show how goal setting actually works and what the stages of achieving it look like.
Your Goals on This Diet
To really experience the full benefit of keto and low-carb eating, setting clear goals matters. Coming back to those goals is exactly what gets you through the hard moments and the strongest cravings, when motivation alone isn't quite enough.
The first step is learning how to set goals properly. Whether a goal actually gets reached often comes down to how well it was defined in the first place.
A well-set goal should be:
Once your goal is set, here's how to actually work toward it:
Step One: Break the big goal into smaller pieces. A large goal feels a lot less overwhelming once it's split into stages (e.g., "lose 4 kg in a month" becomes "lose 1 kg a week").
Step Two: Build a plan around each piece. Break every sub-goal down further into concrete tasks (e.g., losing 1 kg a week might mean tracking your food, working out daily, and staying consistent with hydration).
Step Three: Act on the plan daily. Pick 1–3 clear goals each day and follow through on them (e.g., today's targets might be sticking to your planned meals, fitting in a workout, drinking 2 liters of water, and having a fresh salad).
Step Four: Visualize where you're headed. Picture the outcome. Imagine how it'll feel to move through the world in your new body, to enjoy shopping for clothes again, to feel confident and genuinely happy in your own skin.
Follow this simple, step-by-step system consistently, and reaching your goal becomes far more a matter of "when" than "if."
